La Petite Pâtisserie & Café, Old Town, La Quinta, CA
Visiting a shopping area with colonial Spanish architecture, we were surprised to find a French pastry shop and café, complete with an excellent espresso menu. The outside may have looked Spanish, just right here in the greater Indio area, but the interior took us to France with its exquisite food and warm hospitality. A deeper look revealed that a touch of Spain and Italy was also captured in the lovely pastry shop.
The biggest dilemma we faced was choosing among the many delicious flavors of macarons and then deciding on the perfect coffee to go with them. The next challenge was selecting additional items to take to the condo we had rented! We ended up splitting a few of macarons so that each of us could try a variety.
One of the owners was present–Sebastien Prieto–charming, informative, and perceptive to let us know that their big rush was in the mornings when they baked fresh croissants imported from France. Having lived in Paris where mornings started with a baguette and often a croissant, this was a strong draw for road cyclist, John. With just minor adjustments to his ride map, he could take a breakfast break at La Petite and enjoy himself yet again. And again the next day!
When you are in the Indio, CA, area, La Quinta is well worth a visit for its personality and its creation of a charming Old Town look in its business district. After you have visited the many shops, do treat yourself at La Petite, 78010 Main St., La Quinta, CA 92253. Their phone number is (760) 771-0700.
